About Us

Printroom is a small artist-led gallery in the middle of Hampstead, London, UK showcasing the best of contemporary printmaking. At a time when artists are returning to old techniques as well as exploring new technology and combining both in new and experimental ways, printmaking is now one of the most exciting areas of development and investment in Fine Art.

Printroom exhibits signed prints, in all print mediums, (etching, lithography, screen print, relief print, a few carefully chosen digital etc.) the majority of which are artist printed, small, limited editions whilst some are mixed media 'one-off' works on paper. Printroom holds a diverse selection of framed and unframed prints with an emphasis on work of the highest quality by a wide range of innovative and challenging artists. Prices are as reasonable as possible, from £100 or less for small prints to a maximum of £700 with most items in the £200- £400 range. The aim is to encourage you, the interested public to feel able to afford to collect prints and to appreciate and understand what you are looking at both in terms of the artist and the methods used. In particular, printroom will endeavor to facilitate through discussion and with the help of printed out information sheets to understand what the differences are between artist made limited edition prints and reproductions.

Printroom is currently exhibiting work by well-known artists, such as Ana Maria Pacheco, Marcelle Hanselaar, Michael Kennedy, and Helen Fay. It also features mature artists who have not had the recognition they deserve, such as Margaret Ashman and Isobel Walker. Perhaps the most interesting, in terms of looking for a smart investment and spotting future talent, is work by recent post graduates, young upcoming artists who have not yet shown in major galleries (from the Royal College of Art) Katsutoshi Yuasa and Adam Bridgland; Katie Jones and Giulia Zaniol (Camberwell) and Frea Buckler and Ian Chamberlain (West of England).

Printroom is an accessible (including disabled access) and friendly gallery. Customers are be able to look through the browsers, ask to see any further work which is kept in plan-chests, see artist's CVs, look up technical terms in a small library, find out about printmaking and ask questions.

Printroom is owned and directed by Monica Petzal. Monica trained as a painter at the RCA in the late 1970s, as an art historian at Sussex and more recently as a printmaker at Camberwell.
